Project Valour - IT

Project Valour-IT
(Voice-Activated Laptops for OUR Injured Troops)

Project Valour-IT is providing laptops and voice-controlled software to the wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand and arm injuries or amputations at major military medical centers.

Using laptops and Voice Recognition Software, our wounded heroes can send and receive messages from friends and loved ones, surf the ‘Net, and communicate with buddies still in the field without having to press a key or move a mouse. The experience of CPT Charles “Chuck” Ziegenfuss, a partner in the project who suffered hand wounds while serving in Iraq, illustrates how important this voice-controlled software can be to a wounded servicemember’s recovery.

“At that time I had no use of either hand. I know how humbling it is, how humiliating it feels. And I know how much better I felt, how amazingly more functional I felt, after Soldiers’ Angels provided me with a laptop and a loyal reader provided me with the software. I can’t wait to do the same, to give that feeling to another soldier at Walter Reed.” - Captain Chuck Ziegenfuss at TC Override

I have already made my donation. I am now putting this up for you to donate if you wish. Now, I’m not talking about you giving up on your 3-4 Tall, Double Skinny Mocha Frapachinos per day. But if you could spare the cost of 1 per day for the next 8 days, that would help.

I know I don’t have that many readers to this Blog, but if all of you were to donate $5 or $10 each, it would help reach the goal.

The donations are tax deductible, and you can even donate by snail mail if you wish (go here for details).

So, here’s the lowdown:
Valour-IT’s online fundraising competition has begun. The idea here is to see who can raise the most money to help reconnect our wounded warriors with the world!

WHO: All of you that are reading this Blog (or others listed below).
WHAT: Friendly fundraising competition for Valour-IT.
WHEN: November 2nd through Veterans Day (the 11th).
WHERE: Based in the blogosphere, spreading everywhere else.
WHY: Because giving wounded warriors with hand and arm injuries access to a computer supports their healing and puts them back in touch with the world.
HOW: Blogger teams will be divided along military branches, with civilians “up for grabs.” signing up for the Army Team.

Visit BlackFive for details on joining the Army Team, or to donate. Make sure you send your donation via the button on the BlackFive post, so it’s logged for the Army Team! Or, if you must, visit the site of the Team leader of your branch of choice, and help to raise their totals. Either way, it all goes to help this great program.

The Army Team is headed up by Blackfive.
The Navy Team is headed up by Mrs. Smash.
The Air Force Team is headed up by Greyhawk.
And the Marines Team is led by Holly Aho.

Now, I am a Civilian. However you all know where my loyalties lie. I’ve already joined Blackfive. If you are not affiliated with the Military at all, then choose one the Army Team.

Go for it! HOOAH!!
