…is the message going out from quite a few Blog sites today.

On this day, October 12, 2000 the USS Cole was moored in Aden, Yemen for refueling. A small boat approached, and detonated a bomb, killing 17 and wounding 39. The Cole is named for a Marine Corps machine-gunner killed on “Iwo Jima” in 1945.

When they gather to sip a beer or plan a reunion, the talk is not so much of the calamity five years ago when terrorists attacked the destroyer Cole, but generally of better times.

  1. Remember the Cole

We shall not forget. Five years ago, today, the USS Cole (DDG-67) was attacked by terrorists in the country of Yemen. 17 Sailors were killed, and many more injured. Alan Gray has a memorial post that is a must

  2. I shall never forget. I spent about 4 days with the families of the crew, visited with every wounded Sailor in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, and attended the memorial service on the pier.

God Bless the officers, crew and families of the USS Cole.

  3. The Cole incident is one of those things you don’t forget about, but I’d forgotten it’s been 5 years today. Black Five and Michelle Malkin reminded me. ..

  4. Yes you are so right…not a day goes by that I do not remember what happen to us. So much has changed in my life and alot leads back to 12 Oct. I have been sober for over a year and a half and still have nightmares and still have hopeless days. I have lost alot…my son included. I take sleeping pills everynight, paxil to keep my head and for what…being sent into an area that the US knew we were’nt suppose to be in. Nice! I lost 4 of my only best friends in the blast and never found anyone close to them. We all paid dearly for surviving. I pray that the other shipmates of mine are doing better. God Bless
