Condolences to the Family, Friends, and Comrades of the following Americans who lost their lives while in the pursuit of gaining freedom for others.

DoD Release # 989-05 The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Jason A. Benford, 30, of Toledo, Ohio, died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on Sept. 27, when his patrol was attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire. Benford was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga.

DoD Release # 990-05 The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Steve Morin, Jr., 34, of Arlington, Texas, died west of Umm Qasr, Iraq, on Sept. 28, when an improvised explosive device detonated, overturning the HMMWV in which he was riding. Morin was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 111th Engineer Battalion, 36th Infantry Division, Mineral Wells, Texas.

DoD Release # 991-05 The Department of Defense announced today the death of an Airman who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Airman 1st Class Elizabeth N. Jacobson, 21, of Riviera Beach, Fla., died Sept. 28 near Camp Bucca, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near her convoy vehicle. Jacobson was assigned to the 17th Security Forces Squadron, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.
