More things “Katrina”
Continuing in the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, people were finally allowed to come out into the open at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi. Keesler is home to the third largest Air Force Hospital. Patients and pregnant women in their third trimester were being evacuated to Lackland Air Force Base (Wilford Hall Medical Center) in San Antonio, Texas.
Assessemets were showing severe damage to the industrial area and housing areas. Flooding is evident everywhere. These pictures speak volumes.

Iraq War Today and Blackfive have the initial press release posted.
More at Air Force News: People venture outside Keesler shelters
For the first time since Hurricane Katrina forced them into shelters, 6,000 people at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., ventured outside for a breath of fresh air.
That was late in the day on Aug. 30, just after eating their first hot meal since the devastating hurricane nearly blew the base and that section of the Gulf Coast off the map.
People stood in line for up to two hours to get their first hot food in days, said Lt. Col. Claudia Foss, the 81st Training Wing spokesperson.
“We were able to feed 6,000 people at one dining facility,” she said. Then, after being cooped up for days, families just wanted to go outside and get some fresh air.
A railway runs past the Keesler front gate. And past the tracks is Highway 90. That was the way it was before Katrina struck.
That is all “basically a coastline now,” Colonel Foss said.

I was stationed at Keesler AFB from January 1996 to November 1998, it was a terrific place to work and live. I only hope it gets back to the way it was. Our prayers and thoughts are with all the personnel and their families as well as to the other people tragically affected
by Katrina.

My husband and I were stationed in Biloxi in the 60’s (a long time ago) but we loved it and am praying for all those who were there now during the storm. Keesler was a special place and we pray it will become that again for all those who are stationed there. Our grandson was scheduled to go there shortly but I know that it is not possible now. Our prayers will continue for all there.
