The Department of Defense announces the death of 3 Soldiers:
Operation Iraqi Freedom
Release #117-07:
Cpl. Timothy A. Swanson, 21, of San Antonio, Texas, Pfc. Jon B. St. John II, 25, of Neenah, Wis., and Pfc. David T. Toomalatai, 19, of Long Beach, Calif. died Jan 27 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during convoy operations. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
